Restaurant: Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay

So I’m digging back through my photos, looking over 2022, and up popped a bunch of pics from my 40th. Gordon Ramsay has always been one of my favourite chefs, simply because it’s simple, straight forward, quality food – cooked well. I’ve been to Haddon Street Kitchen more times than I can remember, and a variety of his other restaurants as well.

Well, for my 40th I fancied something special, and I’d never been – so we went to the Lucky Cat. Now sadly, I didn’t actually get that many photos. That’s normally a sign of a really good meal, though, right? When everything looks so amazing you just dig in without even thinking… and by the time you remember about taking a photo, you’ve eaten at least half of it…

The absolute stand out dish for me though, was the JFC:

It was pretty spicy (too spicy for the kids, although they did do portions with the sauce separate). I have to say though, it was so good. I’ve never had fried chicken quite like it, and if I lived close to the Lucky Cat I don’t think I’d ever eat anything else.

We also had:

Pork and Ginger Gyoza

You can’t beat a good dumpling, and these were fab.

Smoked Brisket Bao

These were really good. As I recall, there was some brisket and maybe a pickle and something else in there. It was really, really good.

Pressed Pork Belly Skewers

I love pork belly, and these skewers were divine. You could always tell the dishes were good because when they came to collect the plates, there was nothing but clean plates everywhere.

Bonito Fried Duck Leg Bao

Oh my, oh my, oh my. Rewind what I said about the JFC. I need both JFC and this for the rest of my life. This was just stunning, and I wish I had photos of it. I like bao buns anyway, but these were just… beyond incredible. 10/10, strongly recommend.

Spiced Hardwick Lamb Chops

We were all starting to get a bit full at this point, but it was a set menu I’d planned in advance, and so the food kept on coming. These were very, very good. Many declared these as their favourite!

Cumin Spiced BBQ Pork Ribs

Who doesn’t love ribs? These went down very well… I don’t have much more to say on these, I think, because it was getting towards the end – capacities were getting reached – and also, we’d had more than a couple of glasses of wine by this point…

Dry Aged Char Siu Pork

Aha! One I remembered to take a photo of…

And then all finished off with an Egg Fried Rice.

Egg Fried Rice, you say? That’s normally a dish to go with other dishes? Well, not at Lucky Cat! Here this was a dish in itself, and again I wish I had a photo – but it was just incredible.

We returned no less than a week later, as my wife had booked me a surprise Dr Who (yes I’m a geek) experience in London, and so we stopped here again for dinner. We also finished off with a SoufflĂ©:

So, as much as I wish I’d taken all the photos of dishes to share with you, I forgot. But that obviously means, it’s an awesome place to eat – and you should check it out! Enjoy.
